Powder Coating is managed with over twenty years of powder coating
experience, despite only being in the Grand Rapids area since 2006. We
have recently moved into a new and much larger space in order to better
service our customers.
What is Powder Coating?
Powder Coating is a process of
using a dry paint, which is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder to
an objects. After the object is prepared by cleaning and
sandblasting, the powder is sprayed on the object using an electrostac
gun. The gun places a positive charge on the grounded item. The object is
then heated in order to form a hard coating of
paint.
What Can be Powder
Coated?
Nearly all metals are able to
be powder coated. Anything that can withstand temperatures of
upwards of 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Common items for Powder Coating
are bike frames, automotive parts, metal patio furniture, etc.
What are the benefits of powder
coating?
- Powder
coatings emit zero or near zero volitale organic compounds
(VOC).
- Powder
coatings can produce much thicker coatings than conventional liquid
coatings without running or
sagging.
- Powder
coating over spray can be recycled and thus it is possible to achieve
nearly 100% use of the coating.
- Powder
coating production lines produce less hazardous waste than
conventional liquid coatings.
- Capital
equipment and operating costs for a powder line are generally less
than for conventional liquid
lines.
- Powder coated
items generally have fewer appearance differences between horizontally
coated surfaces and vertically coated surfaces than liquid coated
items.
- A wide range
of specialty effects is easily accomplished which would be impossible
to achieve with other coating
processes.
